The annual Gift of Life Walk at Lake Burley Griffin has been a focal point for organ donation awareness for nearly 20 years. It takes considerable resources, both money and volunteer hours, to stage the event. The decision not to hold a Lake Burley Griffin walk has been made with careful consideration to balance the cost with the level of participation expected. Many of our supporters reading this message have been long-time walkers - we have always valued your support and advocacy, but we are also conscious of the need to reach new cohorts of people - those who haven’t already registered to be an organ and tissue donor.

In the last 20 years, awareness-raising methods have changed, the number of non-profits holding similar events has increased, and an entire national organisation - Donate Life - has been created to promote organ and tissue donation.

This is a period of transition for Gift of Life, and some information on our website may be unavailable or out of date. We appreciate your patience as we take stock of how we, a small group of volunteers whose lives have been touched by organ transplants, can most effectively help our community without duplicating the work of other organisations.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported our work — volunteers, partners, donors, and the broader community. Your contribution still makes a lasting impact every time you discuss organ and tissue donation with someone.

If you need to contact us during this period, please email us at contact@giftoflife.asn.au We will continue to monitor this inbox and support our existing commitments with school-based walks.

Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our journey.
