Ash - Day 3: The 2021 Gift of Life Walk

Tracee Pratt and I are full of love and gratitude for our family & friends supporting us on our mission to promote organ and tissue donation and awareness in Australia.

We completed the Gift of Life Walk, on Monday afternoon in Sydney.

We set off from Hyde Park and walked through the park, the Domain, Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, the Opera House, Circular Quay and finished up with dinner and drinks at the Lord Nelson Hotel on the Rocks.

Joining us was Siobhan Kilgariff, Callum Kilgariff, Gary William Scholes, Anthony Lewis, Marie Webster, Jo & Laurie Muscat, Paul Murray, Rob & Karen Moffatt.

Members of my own family, Maureen Morgan, Julie Stuart, Jim Stuart, and Duncan Stuart did their own walk in Canberra on Monday afternoon.

But not only that, our friends in the UK, joined us with their own walk, getting up at 6am on a cold winters morning to support our cause. How good is that?

Thanks also to my lovely cousin Linda Gordon in London, who did the walk and is going to do it again, having received a T-Shirt from the Gift of Life team.

Do this and we can help save lives.

Only 30% of Australian’s are registered as donors, yet the indications are that 70% would not object to their organs being used to save someone who needed it.

This is quite a big gap, but it suggests that Australians only need a bit of encouragement in order to take action and register.

The intent is there.

Maybe people think they are already registered or just think it’s something they will get around to eventually.
